Dear parents, guardians, and students: Now that we have enjoyed the holiday months and are well into quarter three, this is a great time for students to start thinking about their goals for the next year. While it may seem far away, keep in mind that the credits, grades, and scores obtained now will help chart the course for the future. The school district’s focus on the ABC’s (Attendance, Behavior, and Classroom Success) are still our driving force each day. Please encourage your students to attend school as long as they’re healthy enough to do so. We adhere to being P.R.O. (Prepared, Respectful, and On Time) and our students are getting rewarded for their positive behavior, engagement in class, and for their academic success. To that vain, we recently recognized hundreds of students for improving their grades from quarter two or for receiving Honor Roll or Straight A’s. They received their choice of Ice Cream, were recognized among peers, and received a certificate. Please check in with them if you have not seen that. In the coming months, students will be involved in several different standardized tests, to include: FAST, EOC’s and district exemplars. For our 8th graders, these are high stakes tests, as they will determine placement in high school courses. It is important for all parents to understand the tests their students will be taking and how those scores will be used. Feel free to call our School Counselors (Vivian Colon and Julia Perez) or Administration and we can assist you with any questions you may have regarding these tests and how they affect students. I look forward to working with all of our students the rest of this semester. Together, we can get all students on the road to academic success! Melissa Layner, Principal

Principal's Message

Welcome to Bonita Springs Middle Center for the Arts! I am so honored to be the Principal of this amazing school. Several years ago, I started teaching in Lee County and I’m proud to say it is the only place I’ve ever wanted to work. Our district and school offer so many opportunities for students to learn and thrive. Our goal at BSMCA is to provide a school where students can excel in academics, athletics, and of course, the Arts. Our students receive Core instruction at the highest level, with rigorous engagement continually offered through AVID and Cambridge curriculums and strategies. Through our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) system, Character Education, and progressive discipline plans, students are exposed to the value of personal responsibility and respect. We strongly encourage critical and creative thinking in every area and routinely celebrate the many successes and achievements of our students. Through our participation in Accelerated Reader, every student is encouraged to read daily in order to maintain and increase reading proficiency. At BSMCA, we want ALL students to participate in their interests and receive the support they need to prepare for the next level in their educational journey. Please feel free to reach out to a member of our staff if we can assist you in helping you or your student meet that goal.

In partnership,
Principal Layner
